2nd Week of "Dancing With The Stars" Men & Women Compete Against Each Other!

Some Las Vegas Odds Makers have chosen Donny Osmond and Aaron Carter as their favorites to win the entire show. Only time will tell. Donny is already sporting some injuries, and he claims to have dropped his partner Kym on her head. Their both still smiling, so that's a good sign.

We'll evaluate each couple just as we did last week, with comments, critiques, and scores. We'll compare our scores to the show's judges, and we'll give our take on all the controversy. "We" is myself and my mom. The men and the women contestants are against each other this week.

I don't how far and wide this problem was, but we had huge channel availability issues on our satellite the entire night. So here goes. we'll do the best we can.

Aaron and Karina: Quickstep-This was fantastic! I loved the costumes, the dancing, the energy, and the theatrics. He was smooth, suave, coordinated, and very musical.
My Score 9 Mom's Score 8
Average Score 8.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of 9,9,9 Average Score 9

Chuck and Anna: Tango-Chuck did better this week. He still looks very mad/scary, but it kind of went with this dance. He's still got a long way to go and scary isn't going to work with every dance style.
My Score 6 Mom's Score 6 Average Score 6
Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of 6,7,6
Average Score 6.3

Mark and Lacey: Quickstep-Very good. I really like their costumes, the energy, and the theatrics. I thought Mark did better than last week, and he hung in there. The judges said he slipped. I did not see that, so good recovery.
My score 7 Mom's Score 8 Average Score 7.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 7,7,7 Average Score 7

Donny and Kym: Jive-Great job Donny! You came through even if you are little older. Good dancing, theatrics, technique, and what a performer.
My score 9 Mom's score 9 Average Score 9
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 8,9,8
Average Score 8.3

Louie and Chelsea: Hive-Louis did a good job, but not a great job. I expected more from him this week. His gymnastic skills will help him, but they won't win the day. He's got to improve his sense of timing. I still enjoyed him, and expect to see him back next week.
My score 7 Mom's score 6 Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6, 7,6 Average Score 6.33

Mike and Anna: Quickstep- Only got to see part of this dance, but he did so much better. Great smile, much more personality, and he really came through to the best of his ability. His partner did a better job in choreography this week as well. Mike has been a crowd pleaser both weeks, but the judges enjoyed him more this week.
My score 7 Mom's Score 6 Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 7,7,6 Average Score 6.67

Tom and Cheryl: Tango-Last week the conservative danced to "Wild Thing"; this week he's doing the Tango. He's already got stress fractures in his toes, do good luck. A little stiff in the upper body, but great footwork. He almost dropped his partner at the very end, but all in all, he did do very well.
My score 7 Mom's score 6 Average Score 6.5

Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6,6,6 Average Score 6

Debbie and Max: Tango-Every year, we have to hear Max's partner either cry or tell him off, because his idea of being tough is having unrealistic expectations and a cruel tongue. He just may have met his match this year, but she probably won't be on the show long enough to teach him any great lessons. Due to satellite or station issues, we missed the actual perfomance, so can't score this performance.
My Score Mom's Score

Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of Average Score

Melissa and Mark:
Jive-Nervous Melissa wasn't as nervous this week. She appeared to enjoy herself more, but was still a little heavy in her dancing. She needs to be lighter on her feet, especially during the jive.
My Score 6 Mom's Score 6 Average Score 6
Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of 6,6,6
Average Score 6

Mya and Dmitry : Jive-Mya, you're a star! Personality, theatrics, footwork, and technique. It was all fantastic! The choreography was soooo good.
My score 9 Mom's Score 8 Average Score 8.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 9,9,9 Average Score 9

Kathy and Tony: Quickstep-This style of dance was much more in line with her personality. She is too careful though, but I did see some natural elegance this week.
My score 6 Mom's score 7
Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6,6,6
Average Score 6

Natalie and Alec: Quickstep-Our Olympic swimmer started out somewhat stiff, but she relaxed more mid-stream. She lost her posture towards the end, but her footwork was pretty good. She looked amazing in her lavender dress.
My score 6 Mom's score 7. Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's J
udges Score of 7,7,7 Average Score 7

Joanna and Derek: Jive-This is a good partnership. There wasn't as much jive footwork as I'm use to seeing, and it wasn't as clean as it could have been. They did have a lot of energy though. Don't count these two out though. He just needs to harness her energy.
My score 7 Mom's Score 7 Average Score 7
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6,7,7 Average Score 6.7

Kelly and Louie: Tango-Not as good this week. She was too stiff, and her posture was pulled in too close to Louie. You could tell she was not happy with herself, but she still has huge potential. Hang in there Kelly, you'll be back next week.
My score 7 Mom's score 7 Average Score 7

Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6,7,6 Average Score 6.3

Out "Top 5 Ranking" of the contestants from tonight's show:
1st Place Ranking: It's a tie between Aaron and Mya
2nd Place Ranking: Donny came in next.
3rd Place Ranking: Mark and Natalie tied for the next placement
I suspect that Kathy Ireland will probably go home this week.

The actual results of Tuesday Night's Results Show are that Kathy Ireland is leaving the show. No big surprise, but we will miss her positive outlook.

Tonigh'ts First Results Show for "Dancing With The Stars" and "SYTYCD" Auditions Continue

There were a lot of stars to be excited about after two nights of dancing. Our last two postings go over the exciting events that took place and our comments, scores, and yes even some of the controversy. When you pair professional dancers with stars of gynastics, showbiz, sports, etc., you're going to get a cast of characters. This year is no exception, but the big controversy was about a heated debate between the two male judges Bruno and Len. They both got out of hand, and they both forgot that there was a very nice, talented young lady who just put her self out there for the first time on this show, standing waiting for her remarks and scores. Bad manners are bad manners. I don't care who you are.

Two couples are going tonight. One male star and one female star will hit the road.

The call back number was, and rightly so Kelly Osbourne and her partner Louis. She did a great job again tonight. Good for you Kelly. You go girl!

The male dancer leaving is Ashley. I guess the great smile was not enough. He clearly had low points from us and from the show's judges. No surprises here.

They Miley Cyrus video to her newest hit was a lot more wholesome than her stripper pole dance on the "Teen Choice Awards." Be careful Miley, you're an incredible talent.

The Lion King number was inspiring, fantastic, unbelievable, and every other positive adjective I could possibly use.

Patrick Swayse tribute was touching! We will miss him greatly.

The female dancer leaving is Macy. That was absolutely the right choice. I think Macy was reluctant to do the show at best. For a real funny view of a reluctant dancer, watch the attached video below this post.

The Reluctant Dancer from Vickie Niesporek on Vimeo.

Both Shows come on at the same time MST, so we watched the results show for "Dancing With The Stars"*DWTS" first and now we'll finish our comments on "So You Think You Can Dance"(SYTYCD) Auditions.

Okay, Now on to "So You Think You Can Dance" Auditions.

We're in Boston this week! We have Tyce for the guest judge.

First contestant: Teddy comes well dressed. He wanted to impress. We'll see.

He's so theatrical and knows how to use his body to express emotion. I haven't seen any great spins or leaps though. It doesn't mean he can't do it, but he did not show that aspect of his talent. Teddy could change his name to unique according to Tyce. If Teddy proves himself as a dancer, I could see him being a brilliant choreographer years down the road. Chances of making it past Vegas Good

2nd Contestant: Gene-B-Boy is next. This young man defied gravity. He got a standing ovation. All 3 judges gave him a ticket. That's a first. Chances of making it past Vegas Good

Can't comment on short clip of male dancer that went through. What they did show looked good.

3rd Contestant: Female lyrical dancer in yellow top. Strong, graceful, and athletic dancer. Her emotional side of dance, the performer side wasn't as strong. She, again, did not do a lot of spins and leaps, but what she did do was very good. Chances of making it past Vegas Good

4th Contestant: Peanut, a tap dancer in peach shirt. Great foot work, but he didn't have a lot going on in the way of arms and hands. No spins or leaps at all. Very nice likable young man, but he probably doesn't have enough to go past choreography. Chances of getting past Vegas Poor

5th Contestant: Male Crumper in Black. This guy was so good! I could have watched him forever. Chance of making it past choreography-Excellent. He claims to have a background in many other styles of dance, if that's the case. His chances of making it past Vegas are Excellent. I think he has the potential of being another Twitch or Josh.

6th Contestant: B-Boy in Black. Great guy to watch at a party, but he shouldn't be moving forward at all. In a 2 to 1 vote, Danny moves forward to choreography. Chances of making it past choreography. Poor. Chances of making it past Vegas Poor.

7th & 8th Contestants: Husband and wife team. They danced a Latin-American style of dance to music that really didn't match what they were doing. They did do a good job though and moved straight to Vegas. Chances of making it past Vegas for both of them Poor. I don't believe there will be enough depth in either dancer.

9th contestant: Let's just call him-Mr. Sexy, according to him at least. He looks like a ballroom dancer without a partner. Despite his ego, he was actually very good. He needs a personality adjustment, but he does have a lot of potential. Chances of making it past choreograpy-Good. Chance of making it past Vegas-Poor. I don't believe there is enough depth in this one.

10th Contestant: Paul-Dark blue top was extremely creative, but he didn't have an ounce of technique or training in his body. Bless his heart, he tried to do chaines. It was not pretty. He should not move forward at all. He was beyond the age requirements anyway, so he couldn't have moved on if he had been awesome. So why are we watching him. Did I miss something.

We just viewed clips of several bad dancers and Dr. Evil. I'm yawning.

11th Contestant: 2nd try for this contestant. Blue T-shirt B-Boy Kevin. Good dancing. Gymnastics not so good. Kevin claims he has been training in contemporary since the last time we saw him. He should move on to choreography in my opinion. Chances of moving past choreography Good. Chances of moving past Vegas. It really depends on how much other training he has truly had. Right now I believe his chances of moving past Vegas Good.

2nd Episode of Season Nine's "Dancing With The Stars"

Last night we got a good look at the guys. Tonight, we will be able to get our first good look at this season's female contestants. We'll talk about how good of a match we think each couple is, we'll score them on a scale of 1-10 points, and we'll critique each couple. We will also make any pertinent comments regarding the show's, judge's comments. We absolutely adore and respect all three judges on the show, but we don't always agree with them, so as a result, we may comment on their comments from time to time. Let the dancing begin!

The opening number: "She's a Lady" with the female dancers can't help but be entertaining.

Debbie and Max: Salsa-There were some transitional issues where there was a pregnant pause, suggesting a problem with musicality and timing. Plenty of confidence, coordination, and stage presence. Continue improving pointing toes and keeping back straight
My Score 6 Mom's Score 5
Average Score 5.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of 6,5,5 Average Score 5.3

Melissa and Mark: Viennese Waltz-Melissa was a little stiff, nervous, and unsure of herself. She did show a good sense of timing, some flexibility, and a sweet smile. Even though it was simple, she carried it off with honor.
My Score 6 Mom's Score 7 Total 9 Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of 6,6,6
Average Score 6

Mya and Dmitry : Viennese Waltz-Great job. Superb flow, stage presence, confidence, and the spins and turns were great. Work on flexibility, especially on kicks, and get into the performance side of the dance as well. The judges need to get a grip and quit yelling at each other. This was Mya's first time up and she deserved more respect than that. She was a trooper and successfully kicked back the tears. Great potential. Best dance so far!!
My score 8 Mom's Score 7 Average Score 7.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 8,5,8 Average Score 7

Kathy and Tony: Salsa-Kathy is a beautiful girl. Being taller than Tony doesn't help her look feminine. She needed to loosen up, feel the music, and show more confidence. The judges didn't help to improve her confidence. They're still reeling from the big fight and were pretty nasty with her. Kathy and Tony were gracious receivers of the mostly snarly comments. They're class acts. Dance wise, Kathy is weak and will have to work very hard to overcome her lack of coordination.
My score 6 Mom's score 6
Average Score 6
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6,5,5
Average Score 5.3

Natalie and Alec: Salsa-Natalie has potential. She was cautious and timid, but better than Kathy Ireland. She enjoyed herself more and is obviously very flexible with some gymnastic abilities. That will work to her advantage, but she still has a lot of work ahead of her.
My score 7 Mom's score 6. Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's J
udges Score of 7,6,6 Average Score 6.3

Macy and Johnathan: Vienesse Waltz-Macy did not look like the song "Natural Woman". She needs to close her mouth, reign in her arms, and smooth out her motion. She is going to have a hard time being disciplined enough to really make a go of this.
My score 4 Mom's score 5 Average Score 4.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6, 4,5 Average Score 5

Joanna and Derek: Salsa-That was the best Salsa of the night! She did a great job. She needs to be careful to not mouth the words. She looks at Derek, but nees to remember she has an audience. You can't ignore them, they are the ones who vote for you, and it's important for the likeability factor. With Derek Hough as her partner, they could go all they way.
My score 8 Mom's Score 7 Average Score 7.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 8,8,8 Average Score 8

Kelly and Louie: Viennese Waltz-Surprise, Surprise, Surprise. I am so proud of you Kelly and I'll bet your mom is too. You looked like a beautiful young lady out there. You had great technique, posture, and stage presence. I agree with Len. It was the best Waltz tonight.
My score 8 Mom's score 8 Average Score 8

Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 7,8,8 Average Score 7.6

Side-by-Side Relay: (Foxtrot) The judges liked Joanna best, so did we. Kathy was better, but still kind of stiff. Natalie did a great job, probably 2nd behind Joanna, in our opinion. Debbie needs to not lead Max, but she too looked better.

Side-by-Side Relay: (Chachacha) Macy please close your mouth and your technique was seriously lacking, but you were much better suited for this type of dance. Melissa looked like she was really enjoying herself. She should come in 3rd. Mya looked like she was born to do Latin dancing. Kelly, again what a pleasant surprise. Kelly should be 2nd behind Mya in this relay.

Ranking of the women contestants from tonight's show:
(This ranking does not include the side-by-side relay score or America's score)
1st Place Ranking:
Kelly Our Avg-8 Judges Avg-7.6
2nd Place Ranking: Joanna Our Avg-7.5 Judges Avg- 8
3rd Place Ranking:
Mya Our Avg-7.5 Judges Avg-7
4th Place Ranking: Natalie Our Avg-6.5 Judges Avg-6.3
Melissa Our Avg-6.5 Judges Avg-6
Kathy Our Avg-6 Judges Avg-5.3
Debbie Our Avg-5.5 Judges Avg-5.3
Macy Our Avg-4.5 Judges Avg-5

In summary, the girls are going to have to work hard to give the guys a run for their money, but Kelly, Joanna, and Mya have the best chance.

Tonight's First Episode of Season Nine's "Dancing With The Stars"

Tonight, we will be able to get our first good look at this season's contestants.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am from Utah. That means that Donny Osmond might be a local favorite, but that doesn't mean I can't be objective and judge and critique him right along with the rest of them. I love you Donny. Uhhhhh ..., I mean good luck to all the contestants this year! Let the dancing begin!

The opening number: "The Boys Are Back in Town" with the male dancers was a dynamic start to the show.

The largest cast ever with 16 couples will break up into 2 nights. Tonight the men will dance.

Aaron and Karina: Chachacha-Aaron's performance talents and stage presence definitely came through. He shows great promise and potential. Sharp moves, appropriate facials, and plenty of energy. Karina and Aaron could be a great couple. My Score 8 Mom's Score 7 Average Score 7.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of 7,8,7 Average Score 7.3

Chuck and Anna: Foxtrot-This was painful to watch and I felt sorry for Chuck because he looked like he was in pain when you looked at his face. I believe even Anna will not be able to get Chuck where he needs to be to compete very successfully with this group. We'll see how he ranks with all the guys at the end of the night.
My Score 4 Mom's Score 5 Total 9 Average Score 4.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of 6,5,5
Average Score 5.3

Mark and Lacey (also a Utah native): Chachacha-Great personality before he got out on the dance floor, but once he started dancing, he got a little stiff. His adorable personality wasn't quite as apparent. He didn't do a lot of chachachaing, but he does show potential with his physical strength, flexbility, and coordination. He's going to have to work on keeping better time to the music as well.
My score 6 Mom's Score 7 Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 7,7,7 Average Score 7

Ashley and Edyta: Foxtrot-Great stage presence and smile. You can tell he is genuinely a nice guy, however, he lacks coordination, musicality, and flexibility. He is going to have to work really hard to keep Edyta on the show for very long at all, which is unfortunate, because Edyta has had challenging partners year after year after year. My score 4 Mom's score 5 Average Score 4.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 5,6,4
Average Score 5

Donny and Kym: Foxtrot-Okay, that was good. Sorry Marie, but Donny's debut was better than yours. Donny had personality, timing, stage presence, technique, and all the like-ability you need to win the show. I didn't see the posture issue, but the judges felt there was a problem, hopefully he will make the judges happy with the technical ballroom side of the dance floor. As far as the judges remark about being too theatrical (The song was "All That Jazz") Come on!!
My score 8 Mom's score 8
. Average Score 8
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 7,6,7
Average Score 6.67

Louie and Chelsea (Both from Utah): Foxtrot-Chelsea has her work cut out for her. He did make an honest effort to do a good job, but it was rough. He's not a lot taller than Chelsea and has to wear shoes with high heels. Also, he's unsure of himself, but he's young and shows potential and a good heart.
My score 7 Mom's score 6
Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6, 7,6 Average Score 6.33

Mike and Anna: Chachacha-Mike did pretty good. He didn't steal the show, but he could boogie. The problem is that he was doing the chacha. I agree with the judges, the choreography was lacking and I'm not sure Anna herself is good enough to compete against the other female dancers. It's her first week, hopefully, she'll do better. He had charisma and confidence, but not a lot of technique or substance.
My score 6 Mom's Score 5 Average Score 5.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 5,4,4 Average Score 4.33

Tom and Cheryl: Chachacha-OKay, surprise of the night. Tom Delay can dance-halfway. He actually got into it. He's not going to win the show or anything, but he did an pretty good job. Way to go Cheryl.
My score 7 Mom's score 6 Average Score 6.5

Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6,5,5 Average Score 5.33

Side-by-Side: (Latin) The judges felt Donny smoked all the rest. I agreed, but I felt Louie came out real strong also. The judges placed Louie in 2nd ranking in the side-by-side relay also.

Side-by-Side: (Ballroom) Waltz Aaron was our pick on this one. Mark did a good job too. He could turn all that karate technique into dance technique. Tom Delay did okay, but didn't come close to the first two in this portion of the competition. Michael was in last place as far as we were concerned The judges agreed with us except with the last two places.

Ranking of the men contestants from tonight's show:
1st Place Ranking: Donny 8 and 6.7 He also took the relay dance. If America votes for charisma, stage presence, solid dance skills, and my teenage heart throb, he'll do well. I rank him-1st
2nd Place Ranking Aaron 7.5 and 7.3 He could give Donny a run for his money.
3rd Place Ranking Mark 6.5 and 7 He has the personality to finish very high
4th Place Ranking Louie 6 and 6.5 He has a lot of heart, a competitive spirit, and an excellent partner, but he's going to have to work hard to beat the three above him.
Mike 5.5 and 4.3 I don't Mike coming back.
Tom 6.5 and 5.3 I don't see Tom going very far, but he'll hang around awhile.
Chuck 4.5 and 5.3
I don't see Chuck coming back.
Ashley 4.5 and 5
If a great smile counts, Ashley may make it back again, but I doubt it.

Tonight's Talent Shows: "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Americas' Got Talent"

Tonight, we have two different talent shows on. NBC has the results show for their season finale of "America's Got Talent" . We've already made our predictions, so we'll just be making summary comments regarding how well we predicted and our feelings about who actually won.

On FOX, my personal favorite, "So You Think You Can Dance" will be airing their 2nd audition show in cities throughout America. Now, given the fact that we can't see all auditions they see, and given the fact that we don't even see everyone they put through to their Vegas semi-finals, we'll still play along and comment on what they can share with us in this limited format. Normally, we see the best and the worst, but we'll give each dancer a rating of what we think their chances are of making it into the top 20. It'll be fun! The ratings are: Poor Good Excellent

Phoenix Auditions:
Dancer #1 & 2: The two male dancers: Green T-Shirt/Black T-Shirt-Great job boys. Fun, well executed. The heavy set dancer was so much better than I expected him to be. I was so happy to see that. Great personalities. I love sense of humor in dance. These two will probably not make it to Vegas. Chances of making it past Vegas Poor for both

Dancer #3
: This young lady made it straight through to Vegas last season. Good luck to her. I am so prejudiced in favor of Lyrical dancing, I have to admit it up front. Beautiful technique, great choreography, gymnastic move fell a little short, but overall brilliant. Beautiful talented young lady who absolutely should go through to Vegas. Chances of making it past Vegas Excellent

Dancer #4
: Hearing impaired dancer. I don't know how good her musicality could be with a hearing impairment. Good luck! Beautiful technique, but there may be some balance issues. She did not perform a lot of spins which would suggest that her balance might not be to the level that she would need to be on the show. That may be why there was not a lot of gymnastics as well. That said, her love for dance was clearly apparent. She inspires all of us and makes us all want to stand up and cheer, Bravo! Chances of making it beyond choreograpy Excellent. Chances of making it past Vegas. Good

Dancer #5
and #6: Same Sex Latin Ballroom Dancers. Is the world ready for this. I'm not, personally. That said, these guys both have good lines, technique, and a clear love for the art of dance. Chances of making it beyond choreography Good. Chances of making it past Vegas Poor

Dancer #7
: Nigel was right. He was a lot of fun, but he was clearly not stong enough technically to even move onto choreography.

Dancer #8: A very excited male dancer. This young man has a lot of raw talent and the energy of 10 dancers. He does however lack in discipline and technique. There were a few whoa moments, when some of his dance moves defied gravity. Dancing out of shoes was different and his cowboy move was funny. Nigel summed it up when he said he was perhaps not a good dancer, but a great performer yes. His chances of making it beyond choreography. Even if sheer will were enough, his chances are still poor. His chances of making it past Vegas Poor.

No comments onthe partial dance videos

Dancer #9
: Blond lyrical female dancer. We didn't get to see a lot of this. She had definite potential, but we didn't get to see enough of her to make a good judgement.

Dancer #10: Male dancer in black top and bottom. Late starter. Started dancing on the streets at the age of 15. Personality galore. What great raw talent. Walking across the stage on his hands in a prone position with his feet up in the air didn't hurt either. Great performer too. He knows how to get his audience going. I thought they would make him go to choreography to ensure he could do other styles of dance, but they put him right through to Vegas. Good for him! Chances of making it beyond Vegas. Good.

Well that sums up tonight's show of "SYTYCD" Good luck to all the contestants who moved onto Vegas.

Comments on the Results Show of "America's Got Talent":

For those of you who missed the finale on Monday night, you can catch my choices on earlier posts of this blog. Nick, I like everything you've worn this year except the striped suit a couple weeks ago. Nick was a great addition to the show this year. He made it funny and compelling. His dance skills aren't bad either.
The opening number with guest star Thelma Houston highlighting each of the top 10 contestants was very well done.

The next guest star Leona Lewis. Wow, it doesn't get any better than that. What a talent!

The next guest stars were a myriad of losers from the auditions this season. This is bad television. This is just holding the television audience hostage because you know we're holding on to see who's going to win. Bad television, shame on you guys, although the finish with Grandma Lee and Pearce was pretty funny. I can be won over.

The next guest act: Banana Shreel: Excellent group of performers. Cirque de Soleil almost always comes through for me. Whenever there is good singing and dancing too, I'm a happy camper.

This is how each act left the show in this order:

The first to go are: Hairo Torres, Lawrence Beaman, The Fab 5, Kevin Skinner, Grandma Lee
The Top 5 are: Barbara Padilla, The Voices of Glory, The Texas Tenors, Drew Stevens, Recycled Percussion

Four of the Top 5 were our highest scorers the night of the show.

Next guest star: Shakira (Sorry if I mispelled her name). She did not hit any high notes for me vocally, but then again, I'm not sure music is what she was selling.

The act leaving in 5th place was The Voices of Glory. (Thought they would beat Kevin Skinner)
The act leaving in 4th place was The Texas Tenors (Surprised and disappointed)
The act leaving in 3rd place was Recycled Percussion (SURPRISED and DISAPPOINTED) I love Kevin Skinner. He is so talented, but I can't believe he is up there on stage with Barbara Padilla.

Next guest star: Rascal Flats -I loved them when Country wasn't cool. They're still goooood. Their harmonies are phenomenal.

Favorite Kevin Skinner performance was his original audition.
Favorite Barbara Padilla performance was her final performance which was also her original audition number.

Final guest star: Susan Boyle. We all know her story and her viral video. Good for you Susan. You go girl. You inspire all of us. Now that you're not competing, you're able to embrace your music with an inspired calm that gave me chills down my spine. You brought the house down. One of those rare moments, I was so glad I was able to witness.

What a night! Best three guest stars were Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle and Rascal Flats.

Congratulations to the winner of America's Got Talent 2009, Kevin Skinner.

Don't miss the attached video. This shows you one of the shows my dance studio performed back in 1986. Dancers were ages 4 to 15. We were located in Tooele, Utah.

Act #1 Voices of Glory-Great job I totally agree with the judges. They finally brought it all together and focused on the voices in the appropriate manner. Good song choice. My score 4 out of 5 Mom's score 5 out of 5. Total Score 9

Act #2 Hairo Torres-Fantastic-The judges did not like him as much as I did. If a solo dancer could win the whole thing, Hairo would be my guy. Unfortunately, I'm afraid a solo dancer probably can't take the whole thing. Great song choice, superior effort level. The energy didn't fall at the end which sometimes happens with dancers when they start to tire. Dramatic twist was a great show of variety on his part. I felt Pierce's remark was not correct. We already know he can do the group thing. This young man should try out for SYTYCD. My score 5 out of 5. Mom's score 5 out of 5. Total Score 10

Act #3 Lawrence Beaman-Lawrence's song choice would be great as one of many numbers in a complete act, however for a finale talent show, it was a poor choice and will probably prohibit him from winning the big title. I loved his audition number "Old Man River". That was my favorite Great voice, velvety smooth, great stage presence, just the wrong song for the situation. My score 3.5 out of 5 Mom's score 5 out of 5. Total Score 8.5

Act #4 Barbara Padilla-Beautiful voice again, impeccably dressed again, amazing stage presence again. She is humble but confident of her talent. She is going to be close to impossible to beat Even though we've given Hairo Torrez a score of 10 also, I don't believe his talent will be valued the same, as a whole, as Barbara's.My score 5 out of 5. Mom's score 5 out of 5. Total Score 10

Act #5 Fab 5-These are the best at what they do. I love them and all their themes, choreography, and costuming. However, they don't have enough range to sustain a complete vegas show. They do not have enough variety to win this show, I'm afraid, but fantastic job. I agree with Pearce, they're infectious in their energy, charisma, and clean crisp execution. My score 4.5 out of 5 Mom's score 5 out of 5. Total score 9.5

Act #6 The Texas Tenors-Any one of these guys could be a soloist of note, but the power for this group is when they all three sing together. I think my goose bumps are even bigger than when Barbara sang. They may just take it all. Wow!!! Yes, Pearce it was cheeeeeesy, and I loved every minute of it. They have the looks, (not just the blond), the voices, the appeal, the execution, and the Vegas factor. My score 5 out of 5 Mom's score 5 out of 5 Total Score 10

Act #7 Drew Stevens- My dark horse. I didn't like his song choice last week, but I liked his arrangement and his execution. I was worried though and relieved when he made it through. This week, "I'll Stand By you", a song I fell in love with when Carrie Underwood sang it, was not my favorite performance. Drew did a good job, but paled in comparison to Carrie. Sorry Drew. This young man has a future, but I do not believe he will win. My score 4 Mom's score 4.5 Total Score 8.5

Act #8 Grandma Lee-I love this woman's spunk. Her entrance this week was great, even better than the semi-finals. Her timing is better this week and her material was better also. The Simon joke was the best!! She did even better than I expected, but her material is questionable for some folks. My score 4 Mom's score 3 Total Score 7.

Act #9 Kevin Skinner-I really like this gentleman as a human being, but I haven't been convinced that his singing should have brought his this far. This was my favorite performance so far. It was kind of rough at the front end, but he had a great finish. Pearce's remarks were on the money. Sharon made a good point about some of the greatest singing icons, not having the best voices. He could do with some voice training and a more dynamic approach to his execution from my perspective. My score 3.5 Mom's score 4 Total score 7.5.

Act #10 Recycled Percussion-This group has a future regardless of whether or not they win. Tonight's performance Great outfits, superb variety, change of pace midway was fantastic, visual effect awesome. The water effects finished up a show that was brilliant. Pearce summed it up perfectly. Will their talent be valued along side Barbara Padilla's or the Texas Tenor's? We'll have to wait and see. I loved them. My score 5 Mom's score 5 Total Score 10.

In summation: Barbara Padilla or The Texas Tenors will probably win the $1,000,000, but I would not be surprised if Recycled Percussion had a following large enough to take the money and run!
Going into tonight's show, it's hard to say who's going win yet, but here is our advice before the show starts: Barbara Padilla-Just keep bringing it with the same talent, technique, & energy you have in the past and you have an excellent chance of winning. Fab 5-We love you, you're technique is fabulous, you're choreography is great so far, a little worried about your ability to branch out very much from a limited dance style, but that's the only worry we would have. Kevin Skinner-It's going to be hard for Kevin to stand out and his vocals and style doesn't have a little more variety, but he is very good at what he does. Voices of Glory-The boys are good, but the sister is the star and as hard as that is for family members, let alone band members to come to terms with, that's where there strength lies, let's hope they realize that tonight. Texas Tenors-Stong voices, good looking, very marketable, depends on song choice and their performance tonight, but they have an excellent chance. Grandma Lee-Very funny, but she will have a hard time standing out in the crowd tonight. Recycled Percussion-They are very entertaining, but again limited in their ability to really branch out into a full length show, so I doubt they could take the prize. Lawrence Beaman-This young man has everything it takes, if he chooses the right song and executes it well. Hairo Torres-He is one of my personal favorites, but I'm afraid he will not have a shot at the big prize tonight. Drew Stevens-He is my personal favorite voice of the year, but again song choice, execution, and the energy/magic he brings to the moment are going to determine how well he places and whether or not he could hope to beat the likes of Barbara Padilla. Good luck to everyone! We love you all.
This blog is adding one more judge to some of your favorite talent shows on television today. For example we will add our personal opinion to shows such as "So You Think You Can Dance", "Dancing With The Stars", "America's Got Talent" and "American Idol". The reasons we want to do this are:
1. Sometimes the contestants could really use a critique that is truly helpful rather than the more "off-the-cuff, dramatic remarks made by the judges right after their performance. Sometimes their remarks are more about their reputation as a judge than it is about the actual performance.
2. The remarks are made from a "I'm watching it on TV" perspective rather than being right there front and center with the audience.
3. We have the advantage of time. We can take a little more time, even re-watch the performance if necessary before giving our remarks.
4. We'll quantify our remarks with a predetermined score
5. We'll rank the performances of that night from first place to last place in our personal opinion.

We will start our judging with tonight's showing of the top10 finalist of "America's Got Talent"
