Tonight's Talent Shows: "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Americas' Got Talent"

Tonight, we have two different talent shows on. NBC has the results show for their season finale of "America's Got Talent" . We've already made our predictions, so we'll just be making summary comments regarding how well we predicted and our feelings about who actually won.

On FOX, my personal favorite, "So You Think You Can Dance" will be airing their 2nd audition show in cities throughout America. Now, given the fact that we can't see all auditions they see, and given the fact that we don't even see everyone they put through to their Vegas semi-finals, we'll still play along and comment on what they can share with us in this limited format. Normally, we see the best and the worst, but we'll give each dancer a rating of what we think their chances are of making it into the top 20. It'll be fun! The ratings are: Poor Good Excellent

Phoenix Auditions:
Dancer #1 & 2: The two male dancers: Green T-Shirt/Black T-Shirt-Great job boys. Fun, well executed. The heavy set dancer was so much better than I expected him to be. I was so happy to see that. Great personalities. I love sense of humor in dance. These two will probably not make it to Vegas. Chances of making it past Vegas Poor for both

Dancer #3
: This young lady made it straight through to Vegas last season. Good luck to her. I am so prejudiced in favor of Lyrical dancing, I have to admit it up front. Beautiful technique, great choreography, gymnastic move fell a little short, but overall brilliant. Beautiful talented young lady who absolutely should go through to Vegas. Chances of making it past Vegas Excellent

Dancer #4
: Hearing impaired dancer. I don't know how good her musicality could be with a hearing impairment. Good luck! Beautiful technique, but there may be some balance issues. She did not perform a lot of spins which would suggest that her balance might not be to the level that she would need to be on the show. That may be why there was not a lot of gymnastics as well. That said, her love for dance was clearly apparent. She inspires all of us and makes us all want to stand up and cheer, Bravo! Chances of making it beyond choreograpy Excellent. Chances of making it past Vegas. Good

Dancer #5
and #6: Same Sex Latin Ballroom Dancers. Is the world ready for this. I'm not, personally. That said, these guys both have good lines, technique, and a clear love for the art of dance. Chances of making it beyond choreography Good. Chances of making it past Vegas Poor

Dancer #7
: Nigel was right. He was a lot of fun, but he was clearly not stong enough technically to even move onto choreography.

Dancer #8: A very excited male dancer. This young man has a lot of raw talent and the energy of 10 dancers. He does however lack in discipline and technique. There were a few whoa moments, when some of his dance moves defied gravity. Dancing out of shoes was different and his cowboy move was funny. Nigel summed it up when he said he was perhaps not a good dancer, but a great performer yes. His chances of making it beyond choreography. Even if sheer will were enough, his chances are still poor. His chances of making it past Vegas Poor.

No comments onthe partial dance videos

Dancer #9
: Blond lyrical female dancer. We didn't get to see a lot of this. She had definite potential, but we didn't get to see enough of her to make a good judgement.

Dancer #10: Male dancer in black top and bottom. Late starter. Started dancing on the streets at the age of 15. Personality galore. What great raw talent. Walking across the stage on his hands in a prone position with his feet up in the air didn't hurt either. Great performer too. He knows how to get his audience going. I thought they would make him go to choreography to ensure he could do other styles of dance, but they put him right through to Vegas. Good for him! Chances of making it beyond Vegas. Good.

Well that sums up tonight's show of "SYTYCD" Good luck to all the contestants who moved onto Vegas.

Comments on the Results Show of "America's Got Talent":

For those of you who missed the finale on Monday night, you can catch my choices on earlier posts of this blog. Nick, I like everything you've worn this year except the striped suit a couple weeks ago. Nick was a great addition to the show this year. He made it funny and compelling. His dance skills aren't bad either.
The opening number with guest star Thelma Houston highlighting each of the top 10 contestants was very well done.

The next guest star Leona Lewis. Wow, it doesn't get any better than that. What a talent!

The next guest stars were a myriad of losers from the auditions this season. This is bad television. This is just holding the television audience hostage because you know we're holding on to see who's going to win. Bad television, shame on you guys, although the finish with Grandma Lee and Pearce was pretty funny. I can be won over.

The next guest act: Banana Shreel: Excellent group of performers. Cirque de Soleil almost always comes through for me. Whenever there is good singing and dancing too, I'm a happy camper.

This is how each act left the show in this order:

The first to go are: Hairo Torres, Lawrence Beaman, The Fab 5, Kevin Skinner, Grandma Lee
The Top 5 are: Barbara Padilla, The Voices of Glory, The Texas Tenors, Drew Stevens, Recycled Percussion

Four of the Top 5 were our highest scorers the night of the show.

Next guest star: Shakira (Sorry if I mispelled her name). She did not hit any high notes for me vocally, but then again, I'm not sure music is what she was selling.

The act leaving in 5th place was The Voices of Glory. (Thought they would beat Kevin Skinner)
The act leaving in 4th place was The Texas Tenors (Surprised and disappointed)
The act leaving in 3rd place was Recycled Percussion (SURPRISED and DISAPPOINTED) I love Kevin Skinner. He is so talented, but I can't believe he is up there on stage with Barbara Padilla.

Next guest star: Rascal Flats -I loved them when Country wasn't cool. They're still goooood. Their harmonies are phenomenal.

Favorite Kevin Skinner performance was his original audition.
Favorite Barbara Padilla performance was her final performance which was also her original audition number.

Final guest star: Susan Boyle. We all know her story and her viral video. Good for you Susan. You go girl. You inspire all of us. Now that you're not competing, you're able to embrace your music with an inspired calm that gave me chills down my spine. You brought the house down. One of those rare moments, I was so glad I was able to witness.

What a night! Best three guest stars were Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle and Rascal Flats.

Congratulations to the winner of America's Got Talent 2009, Kevin Skinner.

Don't miss the attached video. This shows you one of the shows my dance studio performed back in 1986. Dancers were ages 4 to 15. We were located in Tooele, Utah.

  1. Hey mom,

I never get a chance to watch the shows, but I just wanted to tell you I love that clip of the young girl dancing (Ashlee) Wow that was beautiful! I loved it! It doesn't hurt that it was to one of my favorite songs =)
