Tonight's First Episode of Season Nine's "Dancing With The Stars"

Tonight, we will be able to get our first good look at this season's contestants. We'll talk about how good of a match we think each couple is, we'll score them on a scale of 1-10 points, and we'll critique each couple. We will also make any pertinent comments regarding the show's, judge's comments. We absolutely adore and respect all three judges on the show, but we don't always agree with them, so as a result, we may comment on their comments from time to time.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am from Utah. That means that Donny Osmond might be a local favorite, but that doesn't mean I can't be objective and judge and critique him right along with the rest of them. I love you Donny. Uhhhhh ..., I mean good luck to all the contestants this year! Let the dancing begin!

The opening number: "The Boys Are Back in Town" with the male dancers was a dynamic start to the show.

The largest cast ever with 16 couples will break up into 2 nights. Tonight the men will dance.

Aaron and Karina: Chachacha-Aaron's performance talents and stage presence definitely came through. He shows great promise and potential. Sharp moves, appropriate facials, and plenty of energy. Karina and Aaron could be a great couple. My Score 8 Mom's Score 7 Average Score 7.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of 7,8,7 Average Score 7.3

Chuck and Anna: Foxtrot-This was painful to watch and I felt sorry for Chuck because he looked like he was in pain when you looked at his face. I believe even Anna will not be able to get Chuck where he needs to be to compete very successfully with this group. We'll see how he ranks with all the guys at the end of the night.
My Score 4 Mom's Score 5 Total 9 Average Score 4.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Scores of 6,5,5
Average Score 5.3

Mark and Lacey (also a Utah native): Chachacha-Great personality before he got out on the dance floor, but once he started dancing, he got a little stiff. His adorable personality wasn't quite as apparent. He didn't do a lot of chachachaing, but he does show potential with his physical strength, flexbility, and coordination. He's going to have to work on keeping better time to the music as well.
My score 6 Mom's Score 7 Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 7,7,7 Average Score 7

Ashley and Edyta: Foxtrot-Great stage presence and smile. You can tell he is genuinely a nice guy, however, he lacks coordination, musicality, and flexibility. He is going to have to work really hard to keep Edyta on the show for very long at all, which is unfortunate, because Edyta has had challenging partners year after year after year. My score 4 Mom's score 5 Average Score 4.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 5,6,4
Average Score 5

Donny and Kym: Foxtrot-Okay, that was good. Sorry Marie, but Donny's debut was better than yours. Donny had personality, timing, stage presence, technique, and all the like-ability you need to win the show. I didn't see the posture issue, but the judges felt there was a problem, hopefully he will make the judges happy with the technical ballroom side of the dance floor. As far as the judges remark about being too theatrical (The song was "All That Jazz") Come on!!
My score 8 Mom's score 8
. Average Score 8
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 7,6,7
Average Score 6.67

Louie and Chelsea (Both from Utah): Foxtrot-Chelsea has her work cut out for her. He did make an honest effort to do a good job, but it was rough. He's not a lot taller than Chelsea and has to wear shoes with high heels. Also, he's unsure of himself, but he's young and shows potential and a good heart.
My score 7 Mom's score 6
Average Score 6.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6, 7,6 Average Score 6.33

Mike and Anna: Chachacha-Mike did pretty good. He didn't steal the show, but he could boogie. The problem is that he was doing the chacha. I agree with the judges, the choreography was lacking and I'm not sure Anna herself is good enough to compete against the other female dancers. It's her first week, hopefully, she'll do better. He had charisma and confidence, but not a lot of technique or substance.
My score 6 Mom's Score 5 Average Score 5.5
Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 5,4,4 Average Score 4.33

Tom and Cheryl: Chachacha-OKay, surprise of the night. Tom Delay can dance-halfway. He actually got into it. He's not going to win the show or anything, but he did an pretty good job. Way to go Cheryl.
My score 7 Mom's score 6 Average Score 6.5

Comparison with Show's Judges Score of 6,5,5 Average Score 5.33

Side-by-Side: (Latin) The judges felt Donny smoked all the rest. I agreed, but I felt Louie came out real strong also. The judges placed Louie in 2nd ranking in the side-by-side relay also.

Side-by-Side: (Ballroom) Waltz Aaron was our pick on this one. Mark did a good job too. He could turn all that karate technique into dance technique. Tom Delay did okay, but didn't come close to the first two in this portion of the competition. Michael was in last place as far as we were concerned The judges agreed with us except with the last two places.

Ranking of the men contestants from tonight's show:
1st Place Ranking: Donny 8 and 6.7 He also took the relay dance. If America votes for charisma, stage presence, solid dance skills, and my teenage heart throb, he'll do well. I rank him-1st
2nd Place Ranking Aaron 7.5 and 7.3 He could give Donny a run for his money.
3rd Place Ranking Mark 6.5 and 7 He has the personality to finish very high
4th Place Ranking Louie 6 and 6.5 He has a lot of heart, a competitive spirit, and an excellent partner, but he's going to have to work hard to beat the three above him.
Mike 5.5 and 4.3 I don't Mike coming back.
Tom 6.5 and 5.3 I don't see Tom going very far, but he'll hang around awhile.
Chuck 4.5 and 5.3
I don't see Chuck coming back.
Ashley 4.5 and 5
If a great smile counts, Ashley may make it back again, but I doubt it.
